The world of Archie Comics is about to become much darker.
Disney+ has officially ordered Afterlife With Archie, a live-action series based on the acclaimed horror comic that transforms the familiar town of Riverdale into a zombie-infested nightmare. Created by Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa and illustrated by Francesco Francavilla, the comic has long been considered one of the boldest reinventions of the Archie universe, and it’s finally making the jump to television with a planned Halloween 2027 premiere.
Unlike the teen drama of Riverdale, this adaptation embraces supernatural horror, survival, and psychological tension while keeping Archie, Betty, Veronica, Jughead, and the rest of the gang at the heart of the story.

The Original Riverdale Creative Team Is Returning

Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa, who wrote the original Afterlife With Archie comic and developed Riverdale and Chilling Adventures of Sabrina, will executive produce the series alongside Greg Berlanti, Sarah Schechter, and Leigh London Redman. Warner Bros. Television is producing the project in partnership with Archie Comics Studios.
For Aguirre-Sacasa, the adaptation represents a full-circle moment, as Afterlife With Archie was the comic that inspired many of his later Archie-related television projects.

Although the series features familiar characters, Afterlife With Archie isn’t a continuation of The CW’s Riverdale.
