Hollywood has made enough alien-invasion movies to fill several galaxies. What makes Soon You Will Be Gone And Possibly Eaten interesting is how little it appears to resemble the usual blockbuster version of the genre.
The film first made headlines when Deadline reported on February 4, 2026 that Sophie Wilde was set to star in the sci-fi thriller. Then, on May 4, 2026, Deadline’s Andreas Wiseman reported that Dave Franco had joined Wilde, with the project heading toward the Cannes market. The same report confirmed Egor Abramenko as director and Luke Piotrowski and Ben Collins as screenwriters. Yahoo News
That gives the film a legitimate horror pedigree before we’ve even seen footage. Abramenko previously directed the Russian science-fiction thriller Sputnik, while Piotrowski and Collins wrote The Night House and Hellraiser. The script is based on a short story by Nick Antosca. IMDb
This Alien Movie Starts With A Wedding
According to Deadline’s May 4 report, Soon You Will Be Gone And Possibly Eaten follows Rob and Sabile, a young engaged couple who travel to a secluded mountain resort to get married. Their celebration takes a completely different turn when unexpected guests crash the ceremony. IMDb
That’s essentially where the official story details stop, which may actually be a good thing.
The project is being described as an alien-invasion thriller, but the setup sounds much more contained than the usual destruction-of-Earth scenario. There are no publicly announced claims about armies of aliens taking over major cities or governments collapsing around the world.
Instead, the film begins with two people trying to celebrate one of the biggest moments of their lives.
Then something arrives that absolutely wasn’t on the guest list.
That Title Is Impossible To Ignore
Let’s be honest: Soon You Will Be Gone And Possibly Eaten is an absurdly memorable title.
It sounds like a threat, a joke and a horror-movie warning all at once.
The title was already drawing attention when Anton announced the project ahead of the European Film Market in February 2026. Deadline’s original report described the film as a sci-fi thriller starring Sophie Wilde, with Abramenko directing and Piotrowski and Collins writing. Yahoo News
There’s also a nice contrast between the title and the actual setup. A mountain wedding sounds romantic. The title sounds like the exact opposite of a wedding invitation.
That tension is probably part of the appeal.
Dave Franco And Sophie Wilde Make An Interesting Pair
Dave Franco and Sophie Wilde are leading the film, giving it two actors with very different recent genre associations.
Wilde broke through internationally with Talk to Me, while Franco recently appeared in the body-horror film Together. Deadline’s May 4 report specifically positioned the two as the leads of the new alien-invasion project. IMDb
Wilde feels particularly well suited to material that depends on fear and uncertainty. Her performance in Talk to Me already demonstrated that she can carry scenes where the tension comes from watching a character realize that something has gone terribly wrong.
Franco, meanwhile, brings a more recognizable mainstream presence without immediately making the film feel like a conventional studio blockbuster.
That combination could work extremely well if the movie keeps its focus on the couple at the center of the story.
The Filmmakers Have Horror Experience
The creative team is probably the strongest reason to keep an eye on this project.
Egor Abramenko is directing after making Sputnik, the 2020 Russian science-fiction thriller that became known for mixing alien horror with a contained human story. Deadline also noted his upcoming A24 horror film Altar when announcing the project. IMDb
Behind the screenplay are Luke Piotrowski and Ben Collins, the writers behind The Night House and Hellraiser. The script is based on a short story by Nick Antosca, whose credits include Channel Zero and the upcoming Cape Fear series. IMDb
That’s a considerably more horror-focused creative team than you’d expect from a standard alien-action movie.
The project was developed by Anonymous Content, Eat the Cat and Divide/Conquer, with Anton financing the film and handling worldwide rights. Deadline reported that production was earmarked for summer 2026. IMDb
The Smaller Scale Could Be Its Biggest Advantage
The most interesting thing about Soon You Will Be Gone And Possibly Eaten is what the filmmakers haven’t promised.
There is currently no official suggestion that this is another massive alien-war spectacle filled with collapsing skyscrapers and computer-generated armies.
The confirmed premise is much more personal: a young couple, an isolated mountain resort and unexpected visitors arriving during their wedding. IMDb
That gives Abramenko room to build tension around the characters instead of immediately turning the movie into a global disaster movie.
And considering the director’s background with Sputnik and the writers’ horror credentials, that seems like a much more interesting direction.
There Is Still A Lot We Don’t Know
Despite the attention around the project, Soon You Will Be Gone And Possibly Eaten remains relatively mysterious.
There is no announced theatrical release date, and no trailer or detailed plot synopsis has been released publicly yet. Deadline reported that production was planned for summer 2026, while current listings continue to show the release date as TBA. IMDb
That means the movie shouldn’t be sold as the next huge alien franchise just yet.
What we actually have is more interesting in its own way: Dave Franco, Sophie Wilde, an experienced science-fiction director, horror writers, a Nick Antosca story and a wedding that is about to go very, very wrong.
And frankly, that is enough to put this one on the radar.
