Netflix has adapted plenty of Harlan Coben novels over the past few years.
But Myron Bolitar feels different.
Netflix formally announced the core casting in early July 2026, with Colin Woodell set to play Myron Bolitar, KJ Apa joining as Win Lockwood and Diane Guerrero as Esperanza Diaz. Variety reported the three lead castings on July 7, 2026, while Netflix later confirmed the trio through Tudum and described the series as a new drama based on Coben’s long-running character.
For longtime readers, this is more than another one-off Coben mystery.
It is the first time Myron Bolitar — the character at the center of a dozen novels — is being adapted into his own Netflix series.
Netflix Finally Brings Myron Bolitar To Life
Unlike many of Harlan Coben’s previous Netflix adaptations, which have focused on standalone stories, Myron Bolitar introduces a recurring lead with years of existing material behind him.
Netflix’s official description says Myron was once headed toward an NBA career before an injury changed his path. He eventually reinvents himself as a sports agent, using his instincts, intelligence and willingness to step into dangerous situations when his clients get into trouble.
That makes the series structurally different from something like Fool Me Once or Missing You. Netflix is not starting with a protagonist designed for a single mystery. It is starting with a character Coben has repeatedly returned to across multiple books.
And that gives the adaptation room to grow if the first season works.
The Cast Already Looks Strong
Netflix’s July casting announcement established the three characters who will sit at the center of the series. Variety also confirmed the same trio when reporting the news.

Woodell takes on the title role after appearances in The Continental and Netflix’s Pulse. KJ Apa, best known for Riverdale, plays Win Lockwood, while Diane Guerrero plays Esperanza Diaz, Myron’s former professional wrestler-turned-right-hand at MB Sports.
Netflix describes Win as Myron’s closest friend: someone born into enormous privilege who walked away from the family business and became the person Myron relies on when situations spiral out of control. Esperanza, meanwhile, is positioned as an indispensable part of Myron’s agency.
Why Win Could Become The Breakout Character
Readers already know that Myron is not the only reason these books developed such a loyal following.
Win Lockwood has always been one of the franchise’s most distinctive personalities.
He has money, resources and an almost unnerving calm when things become dangerous. He is also much more comfortable crossing moral boundaries than Myron, which gives their friendship a built-in tension that should translate well to television.
KJ Apa is an interesting choice because it moves him into a noticeably different kind of character from the teen-drama role that made him famous.
Netflix’s description emphasizes Win’s loyalty and resourcefulness, but longtime readers know there is a much stranger and darker side to him too.
If the show gets that balance right, Win could easily become the character audiences end up talking about most.
This Could Feel Different From Netflix’s Previous Coben Adaptations
Series such as Fool Me Once, Missing You and Run Away were built around self-contained mysteries.
Myron Bolitar gives Netflix something broader.
The character currently appears across 12 published Myron Bolitar novels, beginning with Deal Breaker in 1995 and most recently continuing with Think Twice in 2024.
That creates a very different adaptation model.
Instead of introducing a completely new protagonist whenever Netflix returns to Coben’s work, the streamer now has a recurring lead, recurring relationships and a much larger pool of existing stories it could potentially draw from.
It is closer to building a detective franchise than producing another limited thriller.
David E. Kelley Is Also A Major Part Of The Project
The casting understandably grabs the attention, but the creative team is just as significant.
Netflix says Emmy- and Golden Globe-winning producer David E. Kelley and Kyle Long will co-write, co-showrun and executive produce the series, with Harlan Coben also serving as an executive producer.
Kelley’s résumé includes Big Little Lies, Presumed Innocent and The Lincoln Lawyer, so Netflix has paired Coben’s most established recurring character with a writer who has considerable experience turning crime, legal drama and morally complicated characters into long-running television.
That combination could matter as much as the casting.
Netflix Is Already Expanding The Ensemble
The original three-lead announcement was only the beginning.
Netflix later added Jabari Banks, Chloe Fineman and Jamie McShane as series regulars, with Ben McKenzie appearing in a recurring guest role. Tudum confirmed those additions when announcing that filming was underway in New York City on July 27.
Additional casting followed later in July, including Melissa Benoist, Bebe Neuwirth, Griffin Dunne and several others.
So the project has already grown substantially beyond the initial Woodell-Apa-Guerrero announcement.
Netflix May Have A Long-Term Mystery Franchise On Its Hands
This is why Myron Bolitar carries more weight than a routine casting announcement.
Netflix has already spent years turning Harlan Coben novels into successful limited series. Now it is adapting the author’s most recognizable recurring protagonist and placing him at the center of a format that can naturally continue.
The source material is already there.
The supporting characters are already established.
And unlike a standalone mystery, Netflix does not have to start from zero every season.
If Colin Woodell works as Myron, KJ Apa captures Win’s strange intensity and Diane Guerrero gives Esperanza the personality she has in the books, Netflix could end up with something it has not really had from its Coben partnership before: a mystery franchise built around the same characters year after year.
