Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey has crossed another major box-office milestone, reaching $639.6 million worldwide after just two weekends in theaters.
According to Variety, the Universal Pictures epic has earned $284.4 million domestically and $353.2 million internationally, putting it among the biggest Hollywood releases of 2026 so far. The film’s unusually strong second weekend has also given it plenty of momentum as several major international markets have yet to open.
The Odyssey Holds Exceptionally Well In Its Second Weekend
The film’s second-weekend performance is arguably more impressive than simply crossing $600 million.
The Odyssey brought in $87 million in North America during its second weekend, representing only a 30% drop from its opening frame. Overseas markets added another $128.3 million from 81 territories, taking the worldwide total to $639.6 million.
Universal said the film delivered the best second-weekend hold for a movie that opened above $100 million. Its domestic second weekend also outgrossed the entire opening weekend of Nolan’s previous film, Oppenheimer, which made $82 million domestically in 2023.
That kind of hold is particularly notable for an R-rated, nearly three-hour historical epic. It suggests that the audience response hasn’t been limited to opening-weekend curiosity.
IMAX Has Become A Major Part Of The Box Office Story
The premium-format numbers are just as striking.
The Odyssey has generated $140 million globally from IMAX screenings alone, according to Variety. That makes it the second-fastest film in IMAX history to reach $100 million, getting there in only 10 days behind Avengers: Endgame.
The film also delivered IMAX’s biggest second-weekend performance to date, taking in $38 million worldwide in IMAX during its second weekend.
Nolan’s decision to shoot The Odyssey entirely with IMAX cameras has clearly given audiences another reason to see the film theatrically. The limited 70mm IMAX presentation has been especially strong: 41 screens generated $5.2 million during the second weekend, with the format reaching $16.9 million overall.
International Markets Are Giving The Film More Room To Grow
The international box office currently stands at $353.2 million, with the United Kingdom and Ireland leading the overseas markets at $46.3 million, followed by France at $31.8 million and Italy at $28.8 million. Australia and Germany have contributed $20.6 million and $20.4 million respectively.
There is still considerable territory left for the film to exploit. At the time of the $639.6 million update, The Odyssey had not yet opened in major markets including China, Japan and South Korea.
That gives Universal another stretch of international business to work with before the film’s theatrical run settles into its later stages.

The Odyssey opened to roughly $264 million worldwide, already giving Nolan the biggest global opening of his career. Two weekends later, the film has pushed well beyond the $600 million threshold while maintaining unusually strong week-to-week demand.
