Update, October 12, 2026: Season 3 of Tyler Perry’s Beauty in Black has been streaming on Netflix since August 27. The series has also been renewed for a fourth season, which Netflix confirmed in July, before Season 3 premiered. Netflix had not announced a Season 4 release date at the time of writing.
Netflix Reverses Its Earlier Announcement
When Netflix announced Season 3 in December 2025, it presented it as the show’s final chapter. Seven months later, the streamer changed course and renewed the series for a fourth season, before the third had even aired.
Tyler Perry, the creator, writer, director and executive producer, said in a statement to Netflix’s Tudum that the Bellarie family’s story is “far from finished.” The renewal fits into Perry’s multi-year first-look deal with Netflix, under which he writes, directs and produces series for the platform.
The Viewing Numbers Behind the Decision
Netflix has not explained the reversal in detail, but the show’s performance gives a clear clue. Season 1 spent seven weeks in Netflix’s Global Top 10 and reached No. 1 in 28 countries. Season 2 spent six weeks in the Global Top 10 and reached No. 1 in 17 countries.
Those are strong results for a drama, and they were consistent across two seasons. My take is that a show this reliable became hard to end, especially when Netflix could see audiences still returning.
It also appears the cast was surprised by the original ending. Star Taylor Polidore Williams told TVLine earlier this year that no one in the cast understood why the show would end so soon.
What Season 3 Is About
According to Netflix’s synopsis, Season 3 picks up with Kimmie, played by Williams, finally earning a seat at the Bellarie family table. Keeping that position of power isn’t easy. A dangerous family conflict pushes her into an uneasy alliance with Mallory, which leads to more blackmail, revenge and buried secrets.
TVLine also reported that Williams said the entire third season had been filmed in just six days, a very fast schedule even by Perry’s standards. That detail matters for Season 4. Perry’s production speed means a Season 4 release could arrive sooner than usual, though Netflix has not confirmed any date.
What This Means for the Show
A renewal that reverses a “final season” announcement is an unusual move, and in my opinion it says something about how Netflix views the show. Series that are announced as ending usually do so because the platform has already planned for it. Changing that plan shows that viewing data can override the original strategy.
For viewers, it means the Bellarie storylines don’t have to be squeezed into one last season. Whether Season 4 will use that extra room well is something we’ll only know once Netflix shares details on the story and cast.
