The entertainment industry has created some of the world’s wealthiest celebrities, but acting alone rarely builds billion-dollar fortunes. Many of today’s richest actors have expanded into production companies, business ventures, real estate, restaurants, sports ownership and consumer brands.
There is one important catch with any celebrity net-worth ranking: these figures are estimates, not audited public financial statements, and different publications can arrive at very different numbers.
The figures in this ranking are based primarily on the widely reported Esquire wealth ranking, which was cited by publications including The Indian Express, The Week and Economic Times. That ranking put Arnold Schwarzenegger at $1.49 billion, Dwayne Johnson at $1.19 billion and Tom Cruise at $891 million, while the lower end of the list included George Clooney, Robert De Niro, Brad Pitt, Jack Nicholson and Tom Hanks.
Shah Rukh Khan requires separate context: the Hurun India Rich List 2025 estimated his wealth at approximately $1.4 billion, while other estimates are considerably lower.
With that in mind, here’s the ranking.
10. Tom Hanks — $571 Million

Tom Hanks has built one of Hollywood’s longest-running careers through films including Forrest Gump, Saving Private Ryan, Cast Away and the Toy Story franchise.
The roughly $571 million figure comes from the range of estimates circulating around his wealth; one 2026 estimate puts his fortune at about $400 million, while noting that higher estimates reach $571 million.
Much of Hanks’ financial success comes from decades of acting and producing, rather than a single giant business exit. His career longevity, backend arrangements, production work and property holdings have all contributed to his wealth.
9. Jack Nicholson — $590 Million

Jack Nicholson’s estimated $590 million fortune has been built over one of the most successful acting careers in Hollywood history.
His landmark films include The Shining, One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest and Batman. His financial success also benefited from unusually lucrative Hollywood compensation arrangements, particularly his famous deal for Batman in 1989.
Nicholson has also owned valuable real estate and has maintained an extensive art collection, giving him substantial assets outside his film earnings.
The $590 million figure appears in the Esquire-based wealth ranking reported by The Indian Express and other publications.
8. Brad Pitt — $594 Million

Brad Pitt’s estimated fortune of around $594 million reflects more than his acting salaries.
Alongside starring in films such as Fight Club, Once Upon a Time in Hollywood and Bullet Train, Pitt has built a major career as a producer through Plan B Entertainment.
The company has been behind acclaimed films including 12 Years a Slave, Moonlight and The Big Short. Pitt has also earned money through endorsements, property and other business interests.
The approximately $594 million estimate is part of the same Esquire-based ranking that placed Pitt seventh among the actors covered.
7. Robert De Niro — $735 Million

Robert De Niro’s estimated $735 million fortune comes from a combination of decades of acting and an unusually successful business career.
His film legacy includes The Godfather Part II, Taxi Driver and Goodfellas, but his financial empire extends well beyond Hollywood.
De Niro is one of the figures most closely associated with Nobu, the international restaurant and hotel business he co-founded with chef Nobu Matsuhisa and businessman Meir Teper.
The approximately $735 million figure appears in the Esquire-derived rankings published by several outlets.
6. George Clooney — $742 Million

George Clooney has spent decades earning money as an actor, director and producer, but one of his biggest financial breakthroughs came from a business completely outside filmmaking.
Clooney co-founded Casamigos, the tequila brand that was eventually acquired by Diageo in a deal valued at up to approximately $1 billion.
That transaction, combined with Clooney’s film career, endorsements, producing work and property investments, helped push his estimated wealth into the hundreds of millions.
The Esquire-based ranking cited by The Indian Express put Clooney at approximately $742.8 million.
5. Tom Cruise — $891 Million

Tom Cruise has built his fortune unusually closely around his film career.
The Mission: Impossible and Top Gun franchises have made him one of Hollywood’s most commercially powerful stars, but his compensation structure is just as important as his upfront salary.
Cruise has frequently negotiated backend participation on major films, allowing him to earn substantially more when those movies become major box-office successes.
The widely reported Esquire ranking estimated his wealth at $891 million, placing him third among the Hollywood stars on that particular list behind Arnold Schwarzenegger and Dwayne Johnson.
4. Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson — $1.19 Billion

Dwayne Johnson’s move from WWE superstar to one of Hollywood’s biggest movie stars created the foundation for an enormous business empire.
Alongside his acting salaries, Johnson has earned through Seven Bucks Productions, endorsements and consumer brands, including his Teremana tequila business.
The widely circulated Esquire ranking estimated Johnson’s wealth at $1.19 billion, placing him second on that list behind Schwarzenegger.
That figure should still be treated as an estimate rather than a confirmed personal balance sheet. Celebrity businesses often involve private ownership structures, valuations and assets that aren’t publicly disclosed in full.
3. Tyler Perry — $1.4 Billion

Tyler Perry’s fortune is a particularly good example of why Hollywood wealth isn’t simply about acting salaries.
Perry created, wrote, produced and starred in the Madea franchise while retaining ownership of much of the content he created. He also owns Tyler Perry Studios, his enormous production facility in Atlanta.
That ownership of intellectual property and production infrastructure has allowed Perry to generate wealth across films, television, licensing and studio operations.
Forbes-based reporting has put Perry’s fortune around $1.4 billion, although estimates vary depending on how private assets and business valuations are calculated.
2. Arnold Schwarzenegger — $1.49 Billion

Arnold Schwarzenegger’s fortune is a reminder that his biggest financial success didn’t come from acting alone.
The Terminator star reportedly built much of his wealth through real estate investments made early in his career, later adding business investments, endorsements and earnings from Hollywood.
An Esquire ranking reported by The Indian Express, The Week and Hindustan Times estimated Schwarzenegger’s wealth at approximately $1.49 billion, making him the richest actor on that particular ranking.
That number has been widely repeated, but it remains an estimate rather than a publicly audited figure.
1. Shah Rukh Khan — $1.5 Billion

Shah Rukh Khan is where celebrity wealth rankings become especially complicated.
The Bollywood superstar has built an enormous business empire around his acting career, but his fortune also includes Red Chillies Entertainment, brand endorsements and his family’s interests in the Kolkata Knight Riders.
The Hurun India Rich List 2025 valued Khan’s wealth at approximately $1.4 billion, making him India’s first actor to enter the billionaire club according to that ranking.
Other publications and estimates have placed his fortune at different levels, including figures approaching $1.5 billion.
So rather than presenting $1.5 billion as an undisputed fact, it’s more accurate to say that Khan’s estimated fortune sits around the $1.4 billion-$1.5 billion range depending on the source.
That also explains why different “richest actor” lists can produce completely different winners. There is no single public database that tracks the private wealth of every actor in the world.
