Netflix is officially sending Eddie Horniman back into the criminal underworld with The Gentlemen Season 2, and this time his ambitions are reaching far beyond the estate that started it all.

Theo James returns as Eddie alongside Kaya Scodelario’s Susie Glass and Ray Winstone’s Bobby Glass. The new season picks up after Eddie and Susie have expanded their criminal operation overseas, with Italy becoming the next major battleground. Netflix released the full-length trailer ahead of the season’s September 3 premiere.

Eddie Wants More Than the Estate

Season 2 jumps forward one year, with Eddie no longer looking like a reluctant aristocrat who accidentally stumbled into organized crime. He has grown considerably more comfortable with his position and now wants to expand his empire.

The trailer makes that ambition pretty obvious. Eddie is looking beyond the cannabis operation underneath Halstead and toward a much larger criminal enterprise, with Italy becoming a key part of the story. Netflix’s official synopsis says Eddie and Susie are expanding their operation while Bobby’s increasingly questionable decisions put the business at risk.

That expansion brings them into contact with Marco Moretti, played by Sergio Castellitto, and Cico Maldini, played by Michele Morrone. Moretti is an influential Italian crime boss, while Cico is supposed to help Eddie and Susie navigate their new territory — although trusting him looks like a terrible idea from the start.

Eddie and Susie’s Partnership Gets More Complicated

The criminal business is only one part of Season 2. Eddie and Susie’s relationship is also under pressure as their operation becomes bigger and more complicated.

Netflix’s Tudum describes the new season as a story about Eddie expanding his criminal empire while testing his relationship with Bobby Glass. Susie, meanwhile, has her own plans for the business, leaving the partnership between the two characters increasingly difficult to predict.

Theo James has also described Eddie as someone whose ambition has grown considerably since the first season. He’s now interested in what he can gain from both sides of his life — the aristocratic world and the criminal one.

And that’s probably where things get dangerous. Eddie finally seems to enjoy being good at this.

The Gentlemen Season 2 Release Date

Netflix has also already confirmed The Gentlemen Season 3, so Eddie’s criminal career clearly isn’t ending with this season.
